As part of its ongoing and widespread support for young music makers, Denis Wick is very proud to support MusicFest Canada in its inspiring work for young Canadian musicians and sponsors the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra /L’orchestre a vent Canadien Denis Wick 2022, which is made up of some of Canada’s finest young wind players. It is conducted by two brilliant music educators and renowned conductors, Dr Mark Hopkins and Dr Gillian MacKay. This year the live event at the National Finals had to be cancelled because of COVID restrictions, which had prevented adequate rehearsals for all the bands taking part. However, the DWCWO went ahead as a virtual ensemble, providing great experience for all the talented young musicians, and the results of their recording can be seen on YouTube.
The DWCO can be found at 40.01 minutes and all the other Honour Ensembles can also be heard. Dr Mark Hopkins conducts the DWCWO Lyric Essay by Donald Coakley in this recording made for Canada’s Music Monday. Enjoy this superb performance!
