Tianhao Yao
Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Hangzhou Philharmonic (China)
Tianhao Yao joined the Hangzhou Philharmonic as assistant principal trumpet in September 2015.
He started his early training with Ruikai Ji, former trumpet professor of the Central Conservatory in Beijing. He will receive his master of music degree from Shanghai Orchestra Academy (a partnership among Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and Shanghai Conservatory) in 2016, where he is studying with Matthew Muckey, Ethan Bensdorf, Sergey Tyuteykin and Fei Xia. In 2014, he received his bachelor of music degree from Shanghai Conservatory, where he studied with Jiamin Chen and Danfeng Hu.
In 2015, Mr. Yao received the third prize of the brass quintet division in the Jeju International Brass Competition; In 2008, he received the first prize in the Asia-Pacific International Trumpet Competition.
Mr. Yao has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Gothenburg Orchestra, China Philharmonic, Macao Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony, Guangzhou Symphony and many other orchestras in China. He has worked with Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Alan Gilbert, Fabio Luisi, James Judd, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Richard Pontzious, Long Yu, Yang Yang and many other famous conductors.
During the summer of 2012-2014, Mr. Yao toured over Asia as principal trumpet of the Asian Youth Orchestra.
