Carl Lundgren (tenor) is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of North Texas. He studies with Jan Kagarice, Tony Baker, Vern Kagarice and Steve Wiest. He is a former member of the six-time Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band, whose CD “Lab 2009” was nominated for two Grammys. During his 3 years in the band, Carl toured Europe and Thailand, and performed at Birdland in New York, and Catalina in Los Angeles. He has performed with such artists as Dave Brubeck, James Carter, Rich Perry, Steve Davis, Pete DeSiena, Brad Leali, Denis DiBlasio, Lyle Mays, and Wayne Bergeron.
An arranger/composer, Carl is increasingly writing more of M4’s music. Studying arranging with Richard DeRosa and Akira Sato, Carl has had experience working with Lyle Mays, and is a freelance writer in DFW. Carl is a member of the award-winning jazz trombone group the U Tubes, and has also played principal and second trombone in the UNT Symphony Orchestra and UNT Wind Symphony. He is an alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, where he played and recorded for 3 seasons. In addition to M4’s success in Aarhus, Denmark in June 2009, he placed first alternate in both the Van Haney orchestral excerpt class and the Marsteller solo class of the International Trombone Association’s 2009 competitions.
