Denis Wick is very happy to be once again supporting the Newark Brass Festival 2010, which will take place on January 23-24, 2010. There will be a competition, with top-name judges, open to players aged 9 to 30, from grade five to conservatoire standard and above.
Competitors initially compete in rounds against players of a similar age but may opt to compete in a higher age-group.Ages 9-14 will compete on Sunday morning; the winner of this group will be announced during the concert on Sunday afternoon. Ages 15-17 and the open class (ages 9-30 at grade 8 and above) will compete on Saturday.

The winners will be invited to play in the Sunday afternoon concert.Music workshops are designed to allow younger players to meet and play with some of the UK's brightest brass talent from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. A concert rounds off the weekend and this year will feature not only the competition finalists, Guildhall students and some of the judges, but also last year's overall winner, trombonist Michael Buchanan, playing an original piece commissioned for the concert and composed by Cecilia McDowall, especially for him.All the action takes place in the historic market town of Newark, Nottinghamshire.
