Hubert Wegscheider reviews the new Denis Wick – Paxman horn mouthpieces

The test results of the new Denis Wick – Paxman range were excellent.  We note the wide choice offered within the range, making it easy for any horn player to find the right model to suit them. The rims offer a very comfortable playing surface and the fit is perfect in the instrument.

The mouthpieces for deep horn speak very easily and have big, warm sound. The smaller mouthpieces are characterised by a very easy response, extremely secure high notes and very good intonation.

The medium sized mouthpieces (such as the 5, 5.5, 6 and 7) are perfect for students. Our horn group has tested the new mouthpieces and their opinion was very positive. The bell-form of the outside shape is very interesting and surely contributes to the sound and immediate response of the mouthpieces. My personal favourite was the 5.5 size with a cup diameter of 17.5 mm.

Hubert Wegscheider is solo horn of the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra (KSO). He was assisted in this report by Markus Höller (3rd horn KSO) and the horn students from the music schools of Feldkirchen and Villach, Austria.
